AN INTRODUCTION TO ‘INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS’ THERAPY

(Dialoguing with sub-personalities to heal the childhood wounds)

This workshop introduces Internal Family Systems (IFS) – a radical new style of therapy which is focused on enabling the client to find and meet the unconscious ‘parts’ or ‘sub-personalities’ which underlie their issues and bedevil their attempts to solve them by more conventional methods.

By facilitating a dialogue between the client and his/her ‘parts’ it becomes possible to find out why it is that these separate intelligences do what they do. More often than not this process leads to discovering an even deeper layer of ‘parts’ hiding underneath the problem – usually wounded ‘inner-child parts’ (known as ‘exiles’). And, once these ‘exiles’ have been revealed, the idea is to set up a new relationship with them, enabling the burdens of pain which they carry to be released, and healing and transformation to occur. This often leads to change, not only to the initial problem, but throughout the whole system.

Endorsed by world-famous trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk in ‘The Body Keeps the Score’, IFS is currently state-of-the-art trauma work and has an established legacy of effectiveness in successfully treating psychological & emotional issues of all kinds. It is recognised as being an evidence-based therapy in the USA.

[The workshop will comprise a mixture of exposition, and video extracts showing live case material.]
